LEGO's Technic towball read off LDraw: a 6.4 mm ball on a 3.2 mm neck, the ball Technic steering links, tow hitches and suspension arms turn on, standing 4 mm out from the collar of an axle or a friction pin, on 8 mm of bar beyond a friction pin, or on the end of a 2L bar. It snaps into a Technic Towball Socket, centred and held fast, and into no Constraction ball's cup.
