A length of planed timber, every edge broken by a small chamfer: pick a stock section (45 × 95 for a stud or a joist, 45 × 45 or 25 × 50 for a batten, 28 × 145 for decking), or type a custom one; turn it to lay it flat. Its length runs along the bottom face, and either end can be cut off square, as a picnic table's splayed legs or a rafter's ends are, and the cut turned about the length for a compound cut, and mirrored side to side to a point, as a pyramid's hips meet at its peak. Paint it any stain.
