Sky Flyer I (LEGO Technic 8204)

Description

LEGO Technic set 8204, Sky Flyer I, a little propeller plane from 1998, built in ReDo from LEGO Technic parts by their part numbers: 41 pieces, each one the real part in its real colour, every pin and axle joined into the holes it goes through as the set is built. A rubber belt runs from the wheels' axle round a half bush to a pair of bevel gears that turn the blue propeller, and two long rigid hoses run out to the wing tips.

## Where it comes from

Each piece is placed where the LDraw community's model of the set puts it: *8204 - Sky Flyer I* by Jaco van der Molen, from LDraw's Official Model Repository, redistributable under CCAL 2.0 (CC BY 2.0). The parts are ReDo's own parametric LEGO parts, not LEGO's CAD. The belt follows the curve the model draws for it, stretched to meet the groove and the neck it runs round; each hose is pushed into its 3/4 pin and runs out through the wing tip's beam, leaning in that loose hole so it bows in one gentle curve, as LEGO's own instructions show it.

## What is different from the box

- The red triangle beams (2905) are built as LEGO's current mould, 99773, the small tyres (3139) as 59895, and the axle connector (32039) as 42135, each in the colour the set has.
- The model draws the set in the bluish greys LEGO brought in in 2004; the bushes, bevel gears and joiners here are the old Light Gray the 1998 set has, and the 3/4 pins the old Dark Gray.
- The propeller's upright axle, with its gear, half bush and propeller, is turned half a tooth from where the model draws it, so the two bevel gears mesh tooth in gap as the real ones do; the model draws them tooth on tooth.
- The parts leave out what does not change how they fit: the hollows under a beam, the slots beside a gear's axle hole.
