Future F1 (LEGO Technic 8209)

Description

LEGO Technic set 8209, Future F1, a little Formula 1 racer from 1998, built in ReDo from LEGO Technic parts by their part numbers: 49 pieces and the shock absorber's spring, each one the real part in its real colour, every pin and axle joined into the holes it goes through as the set is built. Its shock absorber's piston rod slides in its cylinder, so the suspension compresses in Simulation.

## Where it comes from

Each piece is placed where the LDraw community's model of the set puts it: *8209 - Future F1* by Jaco van der Molen, from LDraw's Official Model Repository, redistributable under CCAL 2.0 (CC BY 2.0). The parts are ReDo's own parametric LEGO parts, not LEGO's CAD.

## What is different from the box

- The shock absorber's soft spring (upn0188d) is drawn as long as the model's LDCad spring, 16.68 mm, and is threaded on the piston rod: squeezed in Simulation it keeps that length rather than closing up.
- The red axle connector (32039) is built as LEGO's current reinforced mould, 42135.
- The model draws the set in the bluish grey LEGO brought in in 2004; the bushes and joiners here are the old Light Gray the 1998 set has.
- The model tilts one perpendicular connector 1.5° off the shock absorber's axle that runs through it; here it is turned onto it, with its own axle.
- The parts leave out what does not change how they fit: the hollows under a beam, the sculpted tread of the flat wheels.

## Try it

Squeeze the shock absorber in Simulation, take a wheel off its axle, or select any piece to see its part number.
