The assistant is built into the Playground. You tell it what you want in your own words, and it does it in your project, step by step, where you can watch. To open it:
- Sign in. The assistant needs an account, so it can keep to your plan's AI allowance.
- Click AI Chat in the top bar, beside the Project button. The chat opens in the side panel.
- Type in Ask the assistant… and press Enter.
Every change it makes is a normal step you can undo, as if you had clicked it yourself. While it works, the mode switcher waits, so the project does not change under it; stop it in the chat to take over.
What it does
- Finds and places parts. "Add an Arduino Uno and a breadboard" searches the Inventory and places them.
- Assembles them. It seats boards on breadboards, screws parts together and mates holes, as Assembly Mode does.
- Wires them. It runs jumper cables and plugs in legs, as Assembly mode does.
- Reads your photos and sketches. Press the camera button under the chat box, paste a picture, or drag one onto the chat to send up to three with a message: "build this", "what part is this?", or a drawing with sizes. Your pictures are not kept on ReDo's servers: when you reopen an old chat, this browser shows a small copy of each.
- Writes parts of your own. "A bracket that holds this sensor at 45°" becomes a part in ReDo.Core code that you can open in Designer Mode.
- Plans bigger jobs first. A request with several jobs gets a short plan to approve before anything changes.
- Changes the app around your project. It can change your settings ("turn the shadows off", "show the history panel", "hide the LEGO categories"), switch modes, set how Render Mode draws your picture, lay out the Documentation page, and step through the build in Building Instructions.
- Selects, hides and locks parts. "Select all the screws", "hide the case so I can see inside", "lock the base plate". It unlocks a part only when you ask.
- Moves your view. "Zoom in on the motor" or "show me from the top" turns the camera, as the view cube does.
- Shows you what it did. Ask "show me" and a picture of the project appears in the chat: the 3D view as your camera sees it, or, in Render Mode, the finished picture with its look. It uses the same picture to check its own work.
- Answers from this Wiki. Ask how something works and it reads the page and links it. It can also link a part's page, an Inventory category, your project's page or the Community.
What it does not do
- It never saves your project. Save stays yours: the Save button in the side panel, or Ctrl+S (Cmd+S on a Mac). Asked to save, it tells you where Save is.
- It downloads nothing. A Render picture and the Documentation PDF come from their own buttons.
- It does not open or leave Designer Mode for you. It writes parts from whatever mode you are in.
- It changes nothing in someone else's project. It can still read it, answer about it and change your view of it.
Standard and Advanced
Under the chat box, a switch chooses how hard the assistant thinks:
- Standard (switch off) is quick, and right for most requests.
- Advanced (switch on, orange) reasons more deeply, for a harder build. It costs more of your AI allowance per question.
If your plan does not include Advanced, the switch is greyed out, and hovering it names the plan that does.
