A LEGO brick one or two studs wide with open studs on its sides as well as its top, 4 mm under the top and every 8 mm down as LDraw puts them, for building sideways: on one long face, on both, on one and both ends of a one-wide brick, on all four faces of a 1 x 1, or on both long faces and one end with a short tube on the other, its top studs open, one on each cell or one between each two, from two plates to two bricks tall; or LDraw's two-deep plate with its front row raised a plate and open studs on its front.
