A LEGO plate with a thin studded flange at right angles along one edge, for building sideways: the flange hangs down from the plate's top, stands up from its bottom or is centred on it, and may be wider than the plate. Its face stands 1.6 mm proud of the plate's edge and its studs are open, as LDraw draws them, and a 1-deep plate can have its middle cut out, leaving a cell or more at each end under the flange. Or the flange is a whole plate stood on its edge, its studs solid and its hollow behind, over a smooth-topped plate: in front of the plate's edge, from its bottom, with slots for the studs beneath and the plate's tubes open through its top, or as a wall across the middle of a 2-deep plate.
