LEGO's Constraction ball read off LDraw, 10.25 mm across, the ball Bionicle, Hero Factory and Technic sets hinge their limbs on: blind, cut flat on one side with an axle hole 7.7 mm deep so it pushes onto an axle's end; through, cut flat on both sides 7.68 mm apart with an axle hole right through; on a cross-shaped neck off the end of a 1 x 2 liftarm, straight or at 45 degrees; moulded round the middle hole of a 3 hole beam; or on the side of a 2 x 2 brick, one or two, the brick bored for an axle or not. It snaps into a Technic Ball Socket, centred and held fast.
